“Women in Baseball” is the name of a 2017 calendar being offered by the International Center for Women’s Baseball. It pictures women’s teams and individual players from around the world who play baseball right now.
It also pictures some individuals, like me, because I’ve been working on baseball history for 60 years. I was also the first to write about women’s early baseball in a book, Baseball: The People’s Game (Oxford University Press, 1990), written with my late husband Harold Seymour.
I still think the subject of women’s baseball is an important subject for historians to work on and for baseball women to publicize. This beautiful new calendar, available online in the Center’s website, is full of striking photos of women and girls in action on baseball fields not only in the United States but also around the world.
No, I don’t play baseball and am not a fan. But I am still researching and writing, sometimes about women and baseball. I’m honored and thrilled to be included in this attractive and informative new calendar.
